Each year, the IRS releases the “Dirty Dozen” list, a compilation of tax-related scams that taxpayers and the tax professional community should be wary of.
One item on the 2022 edition that has emerged as a prevalent issue in recent years is Offer in Compromise, or OIC, mills. These mills falsely claim that they can help taxpayers resolve their tax debt for pennies on the dollar, while charging exorbitant fees, often thousands of dollars.
