Can the IRS hold me personally responsible for unpaid payroll taxes?

The IRS can hold you personally responsible for unpaid payroll taxes. The IRS will seek to find out who is the responsible party if there’s unpaid payroll taxes. Generally, they look to officers or directors of the company, and they will interview that person to determine if they can be held personally liable. That interview is called a Trust Fund Recovery Penalty Interview.
